"angel of god, my guardian dear..."?
"See, I am sending an angel before you, to guard you on the way and bring you to the place I have prepared." —Exodus 23:20
Many people picture their guardian angels standing next to them. The Lord says that our angels are sent before us. This means our guardian angels are advance guards because we as members of Christ's body are advancing His kingdom.
If someone asked us what our guardian angels said to us today, many of us would be surprised that guardian angels can talk. However, the Lord clearly commands us in reference to each one's guardian angel: "Be attentive to him and heed his voice" (Ex 23:21).
What do guardian angels say? They give us commands from God, and we are tempted to rebel against them and God (Ex 23:21).
How do guardian angels guard us? Do they shield us, push people out of our way, or keep us from falling? Our guardian angels go before us and wipe out several nations like "the Amorites, Hittites, Perizzites, Canaanites, Hivites and Jebusites" (Ex 23:23).
When we picture our guardian angels properly, we better understand God's nature, His plan, and our surprisingly important and powerful part in His plan (see Heb 11:40). In Christ, live the life that needs all that guardian angels can do.
Prayer: Father, may my life fit my guardian angel's job description.
Promise: "See that you never despise one of these little ones. I assure you, their angels in heaven constantly behold My heavenly Father's face." —Mt 18:10
Praise: Escaping a potentially fatal auto accident, Father Tim and his friend thanked God and their guardian angels for such complete protection as they drove away totally unharmed.
